I have a 2007 Explorer 6cyl. 4WD. My wife tried to leave last night and the vehicle would not move forward. It was like it was in a tug of war. The ABS light is on in the dash. After disconnecting and connecting the battery, hoping to reset it, the problem still persists. I tried to take it for a ride and the traction control light comes, 4X4 light comes on, and it drags so bad it almost gave me whip lash when the brakes(?) locked. There is a dragging sound that comes from the car but cannot locate. I think it is the right rear. Is this the module not wanting to disengage?

The end of my drive was plugged with snow from the plows going through during the day. All the ABS wires were intact and free of snow and ice. It only just started after entering the driveway.

I had same thing once, the more gas I gave the more resistance it gave me back. It was one of the front ABS sensors. I had to replace the whole hub.

Since you have a ABS light you will need to have it scanned for trouble codes, This will help you narrow down what sensor has failed. My local Autozone has a OBD II scanner that also can read ABS codes. Once you have the code you will know where to start and you wont be just throwing money at it or wasting time fixing the wrong things! Good luck let us know what you find!

The last couple of times I had the ABS system doing that the ABS tone ring was damaged or not seated properly and had to be replaced and or reseated (I have had this happen to all but one wheel). Really confusing when you give a vehicle gas and then the ABS system immediatly applies the brakes or cuts the engine to prevent what it thinks is wheel spin or it is not seeing a signal at all.

I had the codes scanned and it came up as a right front ABS sensor. Got the part ordered. Thanks for the help.

Have you researched the procedure for replacing the sensor yet?
