I posted yesterday of a possible second transfer case going bad on my 2003 Ford Explorer XLT. This morning I read another post about the possibility of worn pinion bearings. The sound coming from my car does sound like a small airplane taking off (a whir or howl). I have about 110,000 miles on it and my husband recently took it to New Jersey towing an enclosed trailer loaded with a pool table and furniture. It came back with the noise. He doesn't think it is in the pinion bearings. I am baffled because it doesn't really act like it did before when the t case failed. It does it when accelerating and decelerating. There is also this rattle/pinging sound at very low speeds. Please help!!!
