Transfer Case

I have a 98 X Auto and could feel it shudder on pulling away gave it a service by Ford and they told me it is in my Transfer case,they say it is cheaper to put a second hand one in than to repair it, what do you think.
I am in Australia so parts arn't cheap here.

There are several causes of shudder in auto, not all of which require the replacement of the transfer case. Please give more specific data on what you are doing when it happens, speeds, what you feel, what you hear and what (if any) maintenance you've performed. How many miles on it?

TP well it doesn't happen till the motor is hot and a slipping feeling happens as if the wheels are slipping on rocks. only when I take off at lights and when it kicks down as in going up a hill at about 80 klm it has done 90,000 klm and just gave the auto a service for peace of mine the report came back the shudder is coming from the transfer case ?It all seem to start after a big trip 4 wheeling changing from high to low alot and at one time I could smell oil burning but could not find where,there also seems to be a lack of power now not picking up as it should labouring a bit up hills, I also have been towing a caravan but the slipping wasn't there on the last tow only when I came back from the 4x4 trip. thats about it
