While in the process of removing my shift motor from my transfercase for cleaning (I got it fixed - 4x4 works again) I had to remove something, and I don't know what it was. There is a wire from the harness for the motor that goes up to a point a little higher on the transfer case, which is connected to what appeared to be nothing more than a small magnet. Well I pulled that magnet/sensor thing out, and it had some metal shavings on it. Should I be concerned about these shavings? Is this normal? Time for a transfercase fluid change?

Fluid change shouldn't hurt.... Not sure what it was you removed tho.....

sounds like a ground wire to me.

The piece you removed was a speed sensor. It has a magnet on the end and it isn't uncommon to find metal shavings stuck on it.
