My wifes 2002 XL has a 5R55W transmission. It doesn't have a side bolt inlet.
My son in law drained fluid to change filter but now realizes he cannot refill. How to refill is the million dollar question.

They are in Phoenix and I'm in Dallas right now so I can't even look at it.

Any information would be really appreciated.

Use a long funnel and fill through the dipstick tube from above, have him check that everything he unbolted is snugged up and tight beforehand

Thanks for answering, but there is no dipstick in this transmission. Any other ideas?

being and auto transmission it has to have a dipstick tube. usually near the back by the firewall. it is there!!!

Nope, 2002+s don't have a dipstick, that is the problem.

From what I've heard they're suposed to go 100k w/o service. No idea how to put fluid back in. Next look at everything before you go and drain everything. Just like me formatting a computer just to find out the recovery disks don't work. DAMN HP!!

Never seen one

but got the feeling from other postings that the drain plug also had a vertical tube attached. They said you had to have the car level and you pumped in fluid, slightly overfilling. then you allowed excess to drain out with the top of the tube setting the level. Then also heard something about side plugs. Someone ought to post some pictures someday. Just remember, form follows function.

I'd rig up a hose to the plug so that 4 quarts went in (about all you can et out of a pan) then quickly put the plug in. That would get you moving and then take it to a dealer to get the level set. Wouldn't take it to a quick-E-lube. They probably just do a 1 for 1 exchange and not even check the level.

Thanks guys. I'm passing along the suggestions.
Will post the results and solutions when I get them.
