Alright Guys,

I went to the parts store today to pick up a Tansmission Filter Kit and some fluid so i can change it. On the computer at the store, there was no kit specifically for the 5R55e, only the 4r44. I even made sure he wasnt looking under the 4.0 ohv too. I bought the one for the 4R44; the pan pattern on my 5r55e looks identical to the gasket in the kit. Will it work? I figure id ask before i learn the hard way. Thanks a lot.

Had the same problem with mine twice. Just make sure the pan gasket and filter are identical . The new filter kit may come with a bolt that is a different length from the original.Make sure you use the bolt that comes with the filter kit.

What brand was it ?

It was something made by purolator I was told. Anyway, I got it at Advance Discount auto parts the first service I did and Autozone the next service. When you clean off the pan gasket, get some contact cement and apply a very thin layer to the pan surface on the corners and spot areas on the sides. apply a very small amount of contact cemrnt on matching areas where the gasket will meet the pan surface. When the glue dries mate the gasket to the pan carefully and make sure the holes line up. This method makes it very easy to reinstall the pan without chasing the gasket around. DO NOT USE RTV. The rubberized gasket in the kit seals very well when tightened properly in steps in a criss cross fashion. Good luck.

I recommend against a purolater filter, it is a screen type filter. Buy the Fram Microfelt... Autozone does not carry it. Other places do. It comes with the highest recommendation.

The gaskets that I have used (Fram) have slightly undersized bolt holes (tight) but it makes them easier to install because they hold the pan bolts in place when raising the pan. So I just take the pan, put the gasket and bolts in place, then raise the pan and turn the bolts that the gasket is holding in place.....no cement or goo to deal with (putting it on OR taking it off).

I agree with the non-screen/ use Microfelt comment. Also, stick some thin magnets inside the pan to catch any steel debris.

Thanks for the insight guys, this place is awesome!!!

Just a FYI on the filter material. Each Kit I purchased had the felt system. THe Pan should already have a magnet installed(don't forget to clean it) and if your truck is 4WD as mine is, drop one side of that front driveshaft.

When I bought a Fram filter for my A4LD, I noticed that it was about 35% larger and a completely different shape than the OE filter that was on there. Works great, just a different shape. Just letting you know that if the Fram looks different, that's ok.
