Transmission fluid/filter changed!

I Just Brought a 2004 ford Explorer Eddie Bauer V8, Brought the suction gun, got the filter got the fill adapter. About to get the fluid this week. and I also plan on doing the transfer case while im under the truck. how many qaurts of mecron v would be recomended? and should I get regular Micron for the transfer case? What would be the best stuff or is it all the same?

I guess I must be a slow learner here.....But am I hearing correctly that flushing a tranny (in my case an '04 4X4 w/5R55S) is bad, sometimes, but flushing w/o a filter change is worse....

But the only way to change the fluid in the torque converter is by a flush......and half of the total fluid in the whole system is in the torque converter. In my case I want to switch to Amsoil synthetic fluid, and I have no problem "sacrificing" 6 qts of new fluid by doing the filter first, then a flush, but how do I get a flush shop to use Amsoil fluid, that I bring to the shop ? Would I then have like a 90% Amsoil/10% mixed whatever fluid ? And am I calculating correctly that I will need around 18 quarts to accomplish the 2 step deal as I described ?

I have 108k on the clock, no clue what was done before I bought it at 68k 2 years ago.

Wow, why is this so confusing ?

Thanks to any for a sensible recommendation.

Hi, all I am in the same boat for my 04 XLT.

I want to get the fluid changed in the Tranny and the 4x4 transfer case. I called the Ford dealer ship and asked a few questions, that I have had advice on from here, such as the Filter, Pressure.... etc and the Ford Tech said, that there is no filter in the tranny and asked "why do we need to check the presure?"..........................

Any who Transmissions are a tricky thing, IMO, you need to maintain it but I'm afraid to touch it as if it brakes via not a good job being done or not taking care of it, it can be a lot time money and effort to fix it.
