Hello all,

I have a 2006 Mountaineer V8 AWD (30K miles) with the 6 speed tranny and was wondering if these newer trannies require a special kind of fluid (synthetic?).

Also, I've been reading on the forums of some members recommending dropping the pan and replacing the filter also. I was planning on taking it in to the dealer, but I doubt that they will do this, as all they mentioned was a "flush". Is replacing the filter necessary? What would be the harm if I don't replace the filter?

Thanks in advance,
Chris

The 6 spd auto requires Mercon SP. It is only available from your Ford dealer.
And I would drop the pan, clean the magnet (if it has one) and change the filter.

Is tranny service recomended @ 30k? According to genuineservice.com it doesnt come up until 150K?

I just got a price for dropping the pan and replacing the filter - $360. The filter kit and SP fluid is crazy expensive and the instructions for re-filling are 2 pages long.
