I have a '92 I've just changed the filter and fluid in, my question is the hayes manual says Mercron V, but the people at the auto store says III is all I need. I've been running it for a week now on III. It has been hesitating a little on shifting out of 1st when cold, I'm thinking I just didn't add enough, but what about the type, I know nothing about the difference. On the bottle of the III it says do not use where type F or Mercron V is used. Can someone please clarify what I should be using on my '92. Thanks

Ford says not to use Mercon V in pre 96 vehicles because of earlier clutch material. If it has had a recent rebuild then it is ok. At that age it probably doesn't matter much. The 1>2 shift delat is likely because of a sticking speed governor in the extension housing which you can polish. Fluid change won't fix that.
