I was pulling a small trailer around 1000 pounds on the frwy at around 65 to 70 mph. i noticed the engine was revving a little high and suddenly started blowing smoke out the back.

I pulled over and noticed transmission fluid under the carriage; so I slowly made it to the next exit and added trans fluid then proceeded to slowly limp home about 50 miles away.

I'm letting everything cool down at the moment so I haven't inspected it yet.
it ran fine coming home, so could it be something simple like a cooling hose leak?

more than likely a metal trans line or one of the rubber hoses to/from the trans cooler. the metal trans lines are subject to rust, but probably no so much in TX.

don't drive it with the leak, as trans fluid has been known to catch fire when it hits hot exhaust.

Trans cooler, trans cooler lines, inspect the lines that go to the transmission. Remove the passenger side tire and look underneath the wheel well and peer to the top of the trans for the tranny lines. See if they're connected.
