I just replaced the A/T on my 1994 Explorer. I have the trans. bolted up but now the engine will not turn. Not sure what went wrong.

You did put the starter back on right

haven't put it on yet just got the trans bolted up. went to turn the crank to bring the rest of the torque converter studs around to put the nuts on but it wont turn. the studs are in the holes so I know its not putting pressure on that.

Make sure the transmission is in neutral and if that doesn't work you could try pulling the spark plugs to prevent compression in the cylinders.

How are you trying to turn it. I know when I did mine I used a standard screw driver stuck the screwdriver through the side opening where the starter sits. Its hard to explain but I stuck the screwdriver onto the tooth and leveraged it against the side to turn the flex plate. Each movement was only an inch at a time till I rotated it around. You might have really strong compression you could remove some plugs to allow the engine to turn more easily.

I see you said you removed the plugs. Did it turn some before it stopped? or did it not ever turn since bolting on the tranny. Are you sure nothing on top got in between the bellhousing and block like some wire or anything. I know you said your not in gear but I would recheck that again. try moving the shift lever one click forward and backward..

When I did mine I turned it over by using the balancer bolt on the front of motor worked fine for me and also try rotating it back the other way See If That Works. Also having the truck in park or neutral dosent matter, think about it the motor should be able to turn free, if it still won't free up pull it apart it dosent take long, me and my friend have done it so much we can have it out in a hour, and thats with drinking beer
