transmission issue

hey there i have a 98 ford explorer with the auto gearbox fitted..

took the car to the pits the other week was driving it back and the car just started reving and going no where.. looked under the car and was leaking alot of black watery fluid out of the transmission over flow..

let the car cool down and would go again but didnt feel right... was driving like it had a slipping clutch...

checked the oil and there was not alot in, checked the level, and topped up...
still not right,,

do you think i have blown the transmission up? damaged overheated? anything i should of checked? know issues?

Id completely flush it and change the filter. Check for metal shavings while your at it.

what would be the reason why it would throw fluid out of the over flow?

Honestly not really sure. Maybe it got too hot? Not sure. Never had that problem.

Dude, mine did that, it was a problem with the torque converter clutch system. It caught fire: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=316800
