i want the fluid to go into a filter before the cooler.. if this helps

most likely too late for you but maybe not for some one new wanting to know so one a 1st gen the top line going into the radiator is the out put line and the bottom one is the return line or the one going to the stock tranny cooler then back to the tranny. I know this for a fact on a 93 49 state Explorer as that is what I have and used (top line) for my temp gage and (bottom line) to add an extra tranny cooler to with remote spin on oil filter.

well i have already divorced my trans from my radi so i dont remember what line on the trans would have went to the top of the radi and so forth. i fount online that the bottom line on the trans is the pressure line(output) and the top line is return

Making a note of that for my self just in case so thanks! I would have had to search or do the dribble test other wise.

Dribble test = turn it over with out starting and see what line the oil dribbles from as that would be the out put. But ya saved me from that.
