i need some help finding out what it takes to replace transmission mounts.

where are they -

how many -

what tools i might need -

are there any mounts for the transfer case i would want to change as well?

any help would be great! also, what do i need to check for to make sure no damage has been done since the tranny IS moving around while i drive which isnt a good thing..

thanks

There is only one, IIRC you will want to loosen the two nuts at at the crossmember, jack & support the transmission to sufficiently clear the mounting studs, and there it is two bolts. Bam.
Transfer case has no mounts.

IIRC, they are 19mm, you will need a socket and a combo wrench.

will i need to remove the crossmember to get to/remove the mounts?

and whats IIRC?

No, according to the shop manual all you need to do is jack. It may be more room to work if you drop it, but if you are not using air it may be simpler to just jack.

thanks for the replys,

the tranny mount looks good so it looks like im back to trying to figure out whats loose and making this noise. probably look at motor mounts next

can you post a video of the noise? when does it make the noise? perhaps we can help you find out the root cause

unfortunately i cant video the noise, wouldnt be able to hear it in video due to my exhaust. it only makes noise when i go over mild and large bumps or down a rough road. i guess i would describe it as a clunking noise sounds like its coming from the front passenger side below the floor, it could be anywhere though so it makes it harder to problem solve. something a fairly good size has to be loose and moving up and down when hitting bumps.

i originally thought it would be my tranny moving up and down due to a bad mount, but i think ive ruled that out this afternoon.

im thinking next it might be a motor mount, but while on the brake shifting from reverse to drive, even with a little gas, there is no major shifting or movement nor does my noise re appear that im looking for.

next im thinking it could be a bushing/bushings for my front diff mounts, i noticed 1 on the driver side it looks like what might have been a bushing there, but i see more metal than rubber so that COULD be it, but what im hearing sounds like its on the passenger side.

im not really sure what else to look for, everything on the front end including all bushings are new, excluding the cv shafts, which as far as i know, they start popping when they go bad.

id appreciate any help or thoughts

ill try to get a pic up tomorrow of my mount for my front diff

as i was looking over the mounts for the front diff this afternoon, i took another look at the tranny mount, this time using a jack to see if there would be any play which is what i should have done in the first place and didnt. the mount is bad, the tranny has been bouncing up and down the entire time.

this being said, is there anything i need to look for that might have been damaged on the tranny? could the bell housing be cracked very easily in this case?

i have the part coming in tomorrow morning and will install it then, hopefully this will fix the issue.
