Hey all, I have a 2001 Sporttrac 5 speed automatic. (5r55e) 132K
I've been having the infamous 2-3 flare so I got in to replace the EPC (didn't do the trick) and found this stuck on the pan magnet along with the usual wear and tear metal dust.

They're about the size of a pencil lead, round, and one appears to have a small groove.

I assume they're from the valve body, anyone have an idea what part this may have came from? Trying to narrow it down.

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply, ultra fast! They both measure 1/8 inch. These were found the first time I drained the pan to simply do a fluid change after first noticing 2-3 flare. I didn't notice any on the second time dropping the pan 300+ miles later. (driving with shifting from the column)
Any idea which bearing may have rollers that small?

I found some in my pan when I did an oil change and it kinda scared me but the I realized they were from the gasket. There should be a bunch of them fall out once you remove the old gasket. They keep uniform thickness.

Good idea, dropping the pan without a drain plug is a ton of fun...not.

UPDATE:

Good call BB, it was a bearing. X amount to replace the bearing. X++ to replace the bearing and do a rebuild with all TSB updates, new TC, 2/24 warranty, accredited shop, etc. Went with the rebuild being 132K on the truck.

Thanks all

Yes, under ATRA rebuilder members. AC Transmission on federal blvd. in Arvada, Colorado. I'd recommend them. Great service, and I did enough homework on the 5r55e (and BB's bearing advice) to carry on a decent conversation without feeling like I was going to be taken advantage of. After making several calls around town I went with them.

I'm not trying to be nosey, I just would like to be informed of what I can expect if I keep mine long enough...what did the job cost?

I suppose it depends on how long you want to keep your vehicle. A rebuilt (soft parts) from what I've seen can run from $800-1500 and you install yourself. May or may not require core, may or may not be additional charge for TC, if shipped you're looking at additional and if any warranty problems arise...longer time and shipping charges, pulling and installing tranny etc.
In my case, it was a soft rebuild and hard part replacement (one of the bearings) so it ran a little more. My case was fine. Since I would like to put alot more miles on my truck I went with the shop. I could switch it out with the 895 craigslist special but not 100% sure just what I'm getting. I could install one myself, but it's beyond me to rebuild one or replace a bearing. (hmmm, wonder why I have a part or 2 left over, no special tools, etc.)
So I payed a little more for the peace of mind of a local ATRA, BBB accredited shop with 2 year warranty. Now I have all the TSB updates, new TC, etc.
Have them check your valve body gasket and/or solenoids, it could be an easy TSB fix.
Total cost for me was around $2000.
