Transmission problem

I have an 03 Explorer 4.0. Transmission was working perfectly. Just had my engine replaced. Now, you have to rev the engine to get it to go into forward and reverse. Also hard shifts on every gear change. My mechanic replaced the tranny solenoid in an attempt to correct the problem. Same issue. Any ideas ? Tranny was completely rebuilt 2 years ago, and hasn't given me any problems at all, until this engine replacement. I would appreciate any input.

More than likely the trans was removed when they replaced the engine. There could be a variety of things that could have gone wrong.

Can you give details of the engine swap? Same year engine? Computer replaced or flashed to match the new engine if a different year was used?

Pin outs on the engine to trans harness can differ between years, and there might be a crossed circuit if mismatched.

Off the top of my head.....If same year engine / harness was used, it could be an issue with the convertor install.
