Hey guys i have a 99 explorer xlt with the 5r55e transmission it has 197xxx miles on it i have no clue if the transmission fluid has ever been changed but i would like to do it soon.
The fluid now seems to be good no bunt smell and its not dark.
i need to know if its best to drop the pan and change the gasket and filter or do the flush method.
Also is there any adjustment that should be done?

The flush method would change more fluid.
Change the filter as well, that's always a good idea and wipe out the pan.
If you look at the particles in the pan it will give you a good indication of how the transmission is faring.

You can adjust the bands if you have a inch pound torque wrench.

A lot of guys are reporting good results from fitting a remote spin on filter to the transmission cooler lines, it's inexpensive and works well.

So how often do you guys flush/change the tranny fluid? My 2005 Sport Trac has the 5r55e tranny...normal local driving. I am the original owner and it has 89,100 miles. I changed the fluid at 60,000 miles. Don't tow anything or take it off-road. Google search yields 30,000 miles generally speaking, but I have seen 100,000 miles too.

what do i do with the torque converter? im planning on just dropping the pan when i do my 1354 swap so if i drop the pan and change the filter how much fluid can i actually get out?
What is the torque on the pan bolts?
do i need a new gasket?
do i need to use gasket maker?
