my transmission has started to do the customary bang at 2-3 (upshift and downshift always) and in reverse sometimes. The fluid was a bit low so I added half a quart of mercon v to hold it over, but decided that a transmission flush would be a good first step. My problem is that I am having trouble deciding on where to go for a transmission flush since people on this forum seem to religiously hate Jiffylube. I anybody is in the Houston area, can they give me anyplace that will do a good job at a decent price?

Just watch the JiffyLube person do it- they are just known for NOT doing the services when u pay for them

I am thinking thats the same thing with mine. Is yours like a loud bang or not really loud but you can hear it. Mine only does it when I down shift to 1st I think or second. If you get the flush let me know if that fixed your issues. I just don't have the money to blow on something thats not going to fix, or the place to do myself.

Have fun my transmission was slammin in 2nd gear. I took it to the garage and the clutch bands where all burnt out. And to find out the computer started it all. Because the tranny shop rebuilt it and the same problem accord. He took it to the dealer and found out the computer had been f**cked with.

How would the computer mess with it?

I dont now y yet. I will let u know when i get my X back. It been in a tranny shop before thanksgiving. I will have paper work on whats done. But they did say the computer isnt letting the transmission now when to shift from 1 to 2 gear. I will keep u updated.
Thanks

Ok so this is what I have so far. I just did a few troubleshooting steps. I don't think it the tranny anymore. Cause when I am shifting through the gears with the lever. I go w/ overdrive off in first drive to like 25-30 mph and shift to second no clunk. To third nothing, and then turn on overdrive no clunk. Then I went down and I heard nothing either. So I got a manual the other day I am going to see if this is something to do with e-brake. One more step I did. When I stop harder on the brake I don’t hear anything then either. So if you get that back I will try and pin-piont the issues I am having

i have a auto, but i found that my issues my brakes.

You could be right about the brakes. I tried the other gear ranges and there was no clunk. I also hear this whining noise when I increased my speed. I thought it was the transmission, now I am not so sure. Finally, I drove it one morning and forgot to release my parking brakes and it drove the same, with the whining and everything.

97redsport, my dad and I are going to check the brakes tomorrow. Do you have any tips as to what specifically to look for?

Dam man I had a tire shop look at it, cause I have a rear axle seal out and they said the rotor were toast all around. That’s all that I can tell you now. They said from the axle leak it go to my emergency brake pads and did something to them. I don't really know how to explain that. It does make sense. So let us know what you find out. Later this week I am going to take it somewhere else and get their opinion on the brakes

I always take mine to the dealer for that. With newer Fords taking Mercon V ATF, I'm afraid anyplace else will just put in plain Mercon from the bulk tank and screw it up.

I don't trust any dealer around here. For example I used to have a 91 Ford Probe GT turbo. I changed out the plugs and did use anti seize. Then 2 Christmas’s ago I was driving home and heard a loud pop. Took a look and one of my plugs shot out of my head. Well after the local sheriff searched me I got it back in. A while later it happened again and the thread where toast. So I had towed it to a Ford dealer, and after they looked at it. They told me it was going to run me around 1,200 for new top end, everything. Yeah it would have been nice, but I didn't have the funds. Later that day I towed it to a machine shop. 2 hours later they fixed it and charged me 40 bucks. They installed a hella-coil. Chevy deals are the same to me. I must look easy to rip off or something.
