Transmission slip?

OK i just posted a thread about my transmission also..I should have looked here first

anyway...mine seems to be slipping slightly between like 1st and 2nd gear, or 2 and3..its hard to tell

its a slight slip, like the rpms will hang for a second then it will shift..its not rough, but you can tell its doing it later then it should.

I guess I will take the advice that everyone has said and get the filter changed. I did get mine serviced about 15K miles or so ago, and when i got my oil changed a few weeks ago the Trans fluid was a nice red color still and not low one bit..

also feels a little rough when going into reverse..

thanks

Mendonca00,
I previously posted on this thread that I had the same exact problem with the tranny slip as you. I ended up fixing my transmission myself. The only thing I did was replace the EPC solenoid (updated version from Ford), the TCC solenoid (updated version from Ford) and the Solenoid Bracket (updated version from Ford) I also replaced the Transmission filter with new o-rings (from Ford) the solenoid parts were a little pricey (about $320) But that is better than having to replace the transmission! I hope this helps! I also have detailed instructions and part #'s if needed!
Good luck,
Brent

could this be similar to my problem when im using my ac allot around town(i know they say not to)when i stop at a light and then go again it acts like its slipping a little . It only slips for maybe a second then goes i had the tranny serviced before i bought it a few months ago, not sure if it was flushed or filter replaced. also after i put mine into reverse it takes a second or to to go into gear not sure if its normal or a sign of things to come. also on the ac slipping its only done it twice

Tranny slippage shouldn't have anything to do with using the AC. Where did you hear not to use it around town? It may not be as efficient as if the pump were being turned at highway speeds, but it certainly won't hurt anything.

I had this EXACT problem about a year ago. I went in to a shop and had a tranny filter change, and flush. I then told them to double check the valve body bolts. and the mechanic said 6 of them were really loose. He tightened them all up again, and the problem went away. Until lately, I think it's time to retighten the bolts again.

Could be a simple as that.

I'm going in for my tranny filter and oil change tommorow at Cottomans Transmission tommorow morning...so wish me luck!

Good luck! :)

Well thanks for the luck, but it didn't help! I geuss when they dropped the pan I had clutch stuff in it, so they estimated $2,200 for a rebuild! They said to change the filter and tranny oil would be pointless so they didn't do that...but as I drove off my car was stuck in 1st gear (which never happen before) and I pulled over in some parking lot and the guy who worked on my car met me there and popped the hood, checked the tranny oil, and put it back in and I drove around the block and it shifted perfectly fine...so I dunno...My friend went to Cottmans earlier in the year and they told her the exact same thing about her Dodge Neon...So I dunno what should I do guys?? Go get some other estimates? By the way if anyone has a gun just got ahead and send it my was so I can shoot myself in the head before my dad does!!

I dont know if you went by yourself, or with someone, but if you went by yourself to any of these shops, (as sexist as this might sound) take a guy with you that knows a little about cars. This is coming from a chick... Whenever I take my truck somewhere, if its for something I don't know much about, or if I don't know the people at the shop, I always take a guy friend or my dad because they tend to not take advantage of you. Yeah it sucks, but its the truth a lot of the time.
And when I got my transmission rebuilt it only cost about 1,300$.... hope that can be a little helpful. good luck

Don't let them rebuild it. Thats a ripoff. I'm sure you can find local reputable shop that will rebuild it for less than $1,700.

I know I didn't wanna go by myself but my dad had to work cuz I knew they were just going to try and rape me...but my dad and I are going to go and pick it up from Cottman's tommorow because thats where I got it towed too...Oh by the way it broke down on my way home...I didn;t have a 2nd gear so I had to get towed by AAA...I'll keep you guys informed!

Seems a little strange that it died right after they touched it. I'd definitely take it somewhere else and see if they did something to it that caused the failure.

Well the mechanic that was supposed to be there until 1 already left so I didn't get to go pick up my Sploder....I geuss I'm just going to have to pick it up on Monday...But I do think that they did something to screw it up! I'll let you guys know what they have to say on Monday!

Well we took the ol' Explorer to TRC (Transmission Rebuild Center) today...They estimated between $1,085-$1,600....but they said it's not going to be more then $1,600...their gunna have my car for 1 week they say...but I dunno theres a lot of cars there...hope it runs like a champ when I get it back!

What kind of warranty do they offer, and do they offer an extended one? I put 3 trannies in my 96.

I'm pretty sure I heard the guy say 20,000 mile/2 year warranty...i'm not sure about an extended warranty but if they have one I should go ahead and pay for it huh?

Depends on how much extra it is, and how long you oplan to keep this Explorer.

$1,000 for a tranny rebuild? I paid $2500 for mine, and that was the cheapest i could find!(it was an A4LD, maybe thats why?) anyone ever tried that lucas transmission additive they have at autozone? I saw it yesterday when i got my new brakes and was wondering if it really works(i doubt it)? But, then again, seafoam claims to perform miracles, and does!

I have the 4r55e...it prolly does depend on the tranny because my neighbor rebuilt his tranny and it costed him $2,200...I'm not to sure on the extended warranty and yes I'm going to keep my explorer for atleast another 2 years...it's my baby! =)
