TOW it to Pasqual transmissions in Santa Ana.... tell him long time customer / referrer sent you.... should be $1,400-$1,500 total (tell him I said that)....complete overhaul of trans with de re installation....everything.

If you pay for my gas I might even help shuttle you to and fro there...

Thank you very much. This is my first automatic 4x4 and it’s just not working out there time bombs in the sand not to mention you can’t bump start them that really bugs.

My view is I would HATE to suddenly be struggling near the top of the hill with the need for a split second decision to pursue or reverse quickly and have to add a clutch and stickshift into the mix with just milliseconds to choose the CORRECT option...before the INVOLUNTARY slide backwards. Prefer an automatic in that any day, and it's a common scenario off roading with me. Would have to do the double foot manuevers to quickly clutch and brake simultaneously while hopping up a hill.

Yeah I was surprised how forgiving the automatic is especially on hills there a joy to drive. The electronics are the main cause of breakdowns, and I’m trying to eliminate everything I can. Do they make a aftermarket ecu that’s Ca legal.

Now that I have had a day to think about it I’m not positive it’s the trans maybe the transfer case. It makes a ratcheting sound when I put it in park then it goes away, and still rolls.

Not the transmission after all shucks. Ok hopefully it’s that junk shift motor crap
In 2wd and 4wd No park no reverse 1st 2nd 3rd nothing. In 4 Low everything works goes through the gears perfect. Thanks to having done the brown wire mod I was able to put it in 2 low to test it on the street. If anyone has a Full manual transfer case no clutch crap that will bolt the trans I’m wanting one.
Don’t care about drive shafts will have them made.
Thanks

Thank god fore the good folks at the Ranger Station they are so helpful one of there members responded with excellent information exactly what I needed

Ok it’s the transfer case probably a shift fort. I pulled the shift motor and rotated the shaft on the case with my fingers except for 4L had to use some pliers to clunk it in and out of 4L awesome if anyone has a BW1354m I could use one. I’m also selling 4R55 that works fine you can drive it to check it out everything goes with it flex plate converter Hayden cooler starter.

1995 control trac transfer cases are junk

Just install a 1354 manual and forget about it

They definitely aren’t stout. I burned 2 up with moderate off roaring at best. 1354 is the way to go for reliability.

The 4r55e isn’t really a prize either.
