Transmission Trouble

I have been having problems with my transmission in my 94 eb 4x4 for about 10k now, when you try to drive it in od in the city or anywhere that requires much accelerating it will start to slip and wont shift out of 1st gear, if you leave it in d it will not slip at all and has no problems, od works fine as long as you wait until you are on the highway to select it. Any ideas on whats wrong?

Oh and the explorer has about 170k on it now on what as far as I know is the original transmission.

Welcome to this forum! Did you ever adjust your kickdown cable, or bands?

I havent adjusted anything yet, I didnt think it was related to the kickdown cable because if you put in regular D you can floor it and it will downshift like it should and then shift into the next gear without a problem, oh and OD works fine when the tranny is cold, once warm only works (without sliping) at highway speeds.
