I am a new user. My first post, so be gentle. My dauughters 1998 Explorer Eddie Bauer started with a blinking O/D light. I asked her to go get the codes read, which she never did! Then the battery died. Replaced the battery, everyting seemed OK. Yesterday, on her way to work, the transmission started slipping and eventually the truck stopped. Had to tow it home. Did some research and replaced the Variable Speed Sensor on the rear differintial. Here's where I am now. The transmission engages in forward and reverse fine when first started up. As it warms up, it slips and eventually will not go at all. I have read the forums and understand there are electrical components which may contribute to this problem. The quickest and easiest way to fix is to take it to a transmission shop, but frankly I don't have an extra $2000 laying around. Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.

Update on Transmission Woes

So, after replacing the VSS on the differential, draining and flushing the transmission, changing filter, and adjusting the OD and intermediate bands, I am gleeful to report.........She's ALIVE. Either luck or prayer worked. I would not have known about the band adjustment without this forum. Thanks to all of you and the time you take to explain such mysteries of life. Now if I can get someone to answer my post on the error codes I have P0133 and P0340. Thanks again to youins.
