Hi all,

I have a problem with my Explorer 96 V6 XL Manual Shift. When I shift to 3 gear and then press the pedal only RPM go up but not the Speed meter, it takes some seconds to start gaining more speed.

I think this problem is not one day it's ok then the next not. Since this had been happening for some time, but it was not noticiable just maybe a split of a second.

Excuse my english, if more info is needed please advice.

I just want to know if this could be the tranny or clutch?

Thanks

I thought the 5R's were the autos, hes talking about a manual?

Sounds like the clutch isn't working correctly or is almost shot.

I'm doubting the tranny is having a problem from what you describe.

If the clutch is slipping, it should do it in the higher gears, like 3rd 4th and 5th gears.

Try putting it in 5th at lower speeds and floor it and see if it starts slipping.

Sure way to tell if the clutch is slipping...

My truck has issues going into 1st gear somtimes.

DUH ! Nevermind.

Most likely the clutch. How many miles on it? If it is the clutch you while you in there make sure to replace the clutch, throwout bearing, slave clyinder, pressure plate, and pilot bearing...no reason not to since the tranny will already be out.

I blew up a manual tranny in my explorer...if that were to happen, you'd know it POP GRIIIIIINNNNNDDDD haha

Thanks to everyone,

Clutch was indeed the problem Bills. Got it fixed on July, but forgot to post the issue was solved.
