My explorer decided to die yesterday. It ran fine the day before. It wasn't idling funny or having a hard time catching gears. Yesterday we were driving at about 45 and the rpms shot way up. We slowed down, pushed on the gas and it did it again. We pulled over, put it in park and turned it off. When we got done wiggling wires, we got back in and it started right up. When we tried to take it back into drive it wouldn't go. We towed it back to our house and then discovered that the transmission fluid was completely gone. We added some and it still wouldn't go into gear. My father in law thinks it needs a whole new transmission. I think maybe there is something else we need to do. Any ideas?? Thanks for your time.
