I have a 1996 Eddie Bauer Explorer 2 wheel drive (65,000 miles). Transmission fluid has always been fine and taken care of. Two days ago, I had the O/D off light start blinking. I tried to push the O/D button to make it stop, but it didn't work. Next, the check engine light came on and I noticed it had a hard time upshifting. I made one stop and after starting it again, it didn't want to shift from first to second gear. On the phone the dealer thought it might be a sensor problem but they couldn't get me in for a long time so I drove to a transmission shop. The computer there told them I had no second gear. We both noticed that if I took my foot off the pedal after revving the engine in first, it would finally shift into third. They took the pan off and said they found fine shavings? They suspect transmission damage. I was quoted 1800-2400 for repairs, depending on the damage they would find.
Any ideas on the possible problem, or the price, or ANYTHING???? I need to use it soon!!!
Thanks in advance/Olivia
