The Problem:

Biggest problem with doing this is that your computer does not have the 4X4 functions programmed in it; it has no idea that power is going to all the wheels.

If you are willing to live with flashing warning lights, you can replace the AWD transfer case with a 4X4 unit, but will have to install the wiring to power the shift motor. All in all, there is quite a bit to this to obtain a sanitary and useable final result. imp

your 5L has no settings from factory. it is AWD, and only that. type in 4406 swap, and that would be your only choice if you want 4 hi, low, and 2wd. there are people that have done it.

thanks guys ! read up on that 4406 swap and sounds like it may be my best choice,or just live with the AWD and pick up another 4404 case !I will be moving into elite status, this website has really changed my outlook on my explorer !
