Trouble codes for the infamous 4L SOHC timing chain issues?

You could always just make the engine think it’s warmer than it is for a minute. It’s either resistance or voltage that varies to tell the ECM what the temp is. Get a generic timer and a NO/NC relay and either a resistor or potentiometer and get wiring.
In theory that sounds brilliant. I'm no electrical guru by any means, but in simple terms sounds like you may have a winner.

@donalds, you being a tech can you chime in? Any simple and inexpensive way for me to try this? TIA

It’d be super easy. I’d use an “ice cube” relay, and generic 8 pin timer.

You’d have to measure the resistance cold, and then at the point when the engine has warmed up to the point idle lowers. You could read these values with a scan tool, and simulate it on a bench with hot water.
 






Don’t people report starting difficulty with a failing ECT sensor? This mod may have unintended consequences when the truck is in fact stone cold (especially cold soaked in the great white north) and you’re lying to it.

I’d want to know how the PCM commands the flare. Has to be via IAC, right?

Wait, didn’t @donalds adjust his IAC to minimize start flare? I seem to remember a hidden adjustment screw...

I have an SCT X3 tuned by Torrie at Unleashed when he was in business. It has 87 economy, 87 octane, and 92 octane performance tunes.

No start up idle adjustment in the user adjustable options. Clue me in if you're familiar with this flasher and available options for it. TIA

I’d think any quality oil changed at sooner intervals is a good insurance on the SOHC. I think acidic oil might be extra hard on the plastics. (Same idea with Subaru coolants. Change your coolant a lot, and add the additive, and you’ll get considerably better results).

MMO - haven't thought about it in years. We used to put it in our Mopar 440s and 400 cars...to help them wear longer. Engines aren't what failed first in those vehicles we had...

The coolant additive is critical in Subarus with the headgasket issues (virtually every 2.5l until 2014 or so) they have a steel laminated headgasket on an aluminum block and heads. The additive is copper based and keeps the headgaskets from deteriorating due to the dissimilar metals, which happens worse in an acidic environment.

Theoretically, it’d help in anything with an aluminum head, or block and steel gaskets.
