I keep having the two codes P0171 and P0174 coming up and i dont know what is the exact problem with it and i am starting to get a little mad about it. I am wondering if anyone has had this problem with their explorer and was able to fix it without the code coming back. i have aq 1999 ford explorer XLT with a 4.0 SOHC and 4 wheel drive. please help me out if you can i would really appreaciate it. That way i dont have to take my truck to a ford dealership or another repair shop to have them fix it. If at all possible i would like to fix it myself and save myself some money.
Thank you,
Jessee

Probably intake manifold gaskets or vacuum leak. Search P0171 P0174 on the forum.. That'll get you started.

Inexpensive fix

The gaskets on your lower intake manifold are probably leaking. Its common on the SOHC. I think you can get a top and bottom gasket set for about $30. The replacement is fairly time consuming but not that difficult. See Starting my 00M12 Installation and ignore the parts about the chain tensioner. There are several threads that just address the gasket replacement.

thank you 2000streetrod i got both gaskets today for $15 and i am going to use my friends heated garage as a place to put them in cause it is really cold up here and i need the heat :P i will let you know how it goes.

got the gaskets put in and no problems anymore. plus it looks like i am getting better gas milage which is a HUGE plus for me with all that i drive. thanks everyone for your help.
