It has only been a month since I installed a Pioneer (DEH-P750MP) stereo and Infinity (Kappa 572.5) speakers in all four doors when someone trashed my driver's side door lock and took the stereo. I took the faceplate off that morning but put it in the center console instead of taking it with me (a lesson learned), so they got the stereo and the faceplate. What really pisses me off it that the damage to the door is estimated to be over $1300 to fix. All for a $200 stereo. I guess I will need to look into installing an alarm system after I get everything fixed/replaced.

Any suggestions on how to make my truck more secure so this doesn't happen again? Is an alarm system the answer?

Thanks.

YES. Alarm BEFORE stereo......

GET a good alarm, dont skimp, it will pay for itself.
I personally Like UNGO alarms, but Viper, and others work good too.
Most of them are made by the same company anyways :)

If the alarm is set up right and you are cautious about where you leave it and what people can see inside your truck (like if you have to leave it somewhere, throw a shirt over the stereo, or something, theives know 80% of the time the faceplate is in there, and what do they care? A broken window or lock jimmy is just so damn easy on a car an alarm is your BEST deturant.

There are plenty of things you can do to keep them from being able to get in and also to keep them from being able to easily take out equipment, but first and foremost = alarm

I go to school inthe Ghetto with a really nice system, so theft is a big threat to me. I did a couple things, Got a really loud alarm and let everybody know I have it. And Befriended the cop at school so If my alarm is going off, he will now go out and see whats up, cool.

welll i had mine broken into bout a year ago, and than just liek 2 weeks ago again..... It sucks, neither times did i have an alarm, and i cna tell you, im beefing up the security now, Gunan get an alarm, also will make the Alarm tie into my house alarm, for when im at home, and were also installign cameras to watch my vehicle at night.... When they broke into thsi last time they got my radio and brand new camera.....

I jsut found out from my friend, that 2 nights ago someoen stole his stuff. He had a Pioneer H/U, two Alpine Type R's, a Custom Box, and a MTX 1501d..... He hoad bout 1300 invested, its ashame people have to steep so low, i consider theives to be on the level of terrorist :fire:

If you and your friend dont live near each other the chances are good that this is sombody you both know...

I live liek .5 miles away from him, He was at some girls house when it happened, they also broke into her car and stole her purse, yet they didnt break any windows, and all his doors and hers were locked, so they had to use a Slim Jim.....

I haven't had any break-ins. Got an alarm before my stereo. This was at least 2 years ago. I have a proximity + shock sensor, 120dB under the hood, and a mini-piezo in the dash. If someone ever does break in, it's gonna be extremely loud.

My alarm allows me to turn the sensitivity down on the motion detector, bbut I never do so it goes off all the time, if theres a strong wind, or rain. Or even if a big truck goes by. Fun stuff. Everybody at school knows I have it so nobody is going to try anything there. And thats really the only place that my car is un-attended for more than a little while.

I was told that with the cars '98 and newer that they have a shield in the door that keeps you from using a slim jim. When I used to work at Western Auto we sold a whole slim jim kit. I thought that was really stupid....you could break into any car you wanted.

One of my neighbors trucks was broken into about a month ago, and he had a sweet system, not to mention a SWEET truck. If I were threatened that my explorer was to be broken into, then I would set up a camera, find out who it was and then go beat the living S**T out of whoever it was. Just my opinion.
kalel33-- that is pretty dumb to sell a "car break-in kit" I wonder how many were bought for that purpose.

That's not stupid. Many people lock their keys in their cars all the time. Dealerships use slim jims, as well as many commercial places. My neighbor has a set. I tried to use them, not the easiest thing.

Most tow trucks have a entire kit deisnged to get into any car many differnet number of ways. Slim jims work on most, there is always a way in, cars are pretty easy to get into. Where there is a will there is a way.

Its not stupid their sold the kits, its stupid that anyone could buy one.

I have a viper 690XV two way pager alarm with 1 piezeo inside under the dash, 2 viper sirens under the hood and 2 in the rear of the truck. Hood lock and backup battery. Now if my alarm goes off....ITS LOUD. Its so easy to add additional sirens and for 10$ a pop shipped off ebay why not?

On my 97, I have the stock keyless entry that has the panic button. When u press this the horn honks and on the dash there is a "theft" light. Is this stock "security" system any good?

matt, its better than nothing I guess. It will honk if someone trys to get in while the doors are lockedbut thats it. Easily disarmed

I know man I know, atleast it offers someting right. Say u park ur truck in ur driveway and someone breaks in ur car and opens ur door, horn goes off. Atleast u have some kind of a fighting chance if u hear it

When I lock my car (using keyless entry, pressing the lock button twice quickly) and the horn honks... doesn't that mean your security system is activated? I can't get my alarm to go off when I arm it. Am I doing something wrong?

Yes it does. If you wanna test it, arm it, then break a window
