I just got new tires, not sure if this is it, didn't notice with old tires... but here is my problem. From a stopped position I accellerate and get a shuddering I think around my rear end, but not sure. After getting out of I thing 2nd (automatic) it stops. Then again at a stop and accellerating it happens again. kind of shudders and seems like a flat spot. Can someone please give me some idead. dont have lots of money to fix so desperate here.

Were the tires balanced? If so, they might not have been done correctly.

Then start with basic stuff. Check the lug nuts, make sure they are tight and torqued to 100 ft/lbs. Also, check the tire pressure. Last time I got tires, the shop had 44 psi in one tire, and 40 in all the others.

I'd start with that stuff, see if it corrects the problem.

BradE, I guess I just got too worried to quick. I should have used the old KISS (keep it simple stupid) method before wasting your time.
I will try what you suggested first and let you know.

thx

Checked out the easy stuff and still have the shudder. Only when accelerating not when taking off slow. It shudders, vibrates and sounds and feels like a flat spot. Any other suggestions????

green bean, I have the same problem with my 97 and it showed up after getting new tires, checked tire pressure and found psi to range anywhere from 35-50 between my tires ,I corrected my air pressure but it did not help.Ive checked my u-joints and all seems tight ,I guess my next step would be to have them balanced again. The shudder is only happening when taking off fast and goes away after getting to about 30 mph.let me know if you find a fix,if i do i will post it for you.

Double check the air pressure and if all else fails take the tires back and have them re-check the balance. I've had the weight on a tire come off while driving before. It could even be a lug nut or stud. I've seen stud sheared off that replicate your vibration.

also a lot of times, shops have a hard time balancing one tire or another on a car (especially on a larger tire), and they just stick them on the back end and ignore the weight reading on the balancer, figuring that youll never notice.
