ok tonight i got stuck in a feild bad i was trying to roack her back and forth by 1 and reverse and once i got out i put it in overdirve and take of fine hit 25 and will not shift into second so i let if go for a while and then around 35-40 about 4 grand it finally shift into second so then i stop again and put it in 2 and it akes off to about 45 and will not shift so then i throw it into overdrive and then about 50 at 4grand it shifts so it does not want to shift anu ideas on what is worng wit it and i posted this in here beacuse i have to drive to school tomorow the only thing that i can think of for a quick fix would be a goog bottle of lucas

now if my trany is shot i do not want to put a another a4ld in it so my to options is to go to a manual the fm145 or the automatic c6 which would be easir and cheaper and beter for playing aprund wit i think the manual would be better but just give me ur opions

When you put it into "2", you are selecting manual second, which means it is only in 2nd gear.....it shouldn't shift up or down at all. Same thing for "1" -> manual 1st gear. No shifts.

The only two positions where the tranny should shift is when you have selected Drive or Overdrive (1-2-3, and 1-2-3-4).

When you got stuck in the field, it is possible that you:
1) damaged the shift cable or got it out of adjustment
2) damaged the kickdown cable or got it out of adjustment
3) damaged the modulator valve or vacuum line running to it, maybe

Did you high-center it on a berm or just get into some deep mud?

A late 1-2 shift can also be cause by a stuck/sticky govenor valve.

just got stuck in a corn feild in some really deap mud realy deap up to my kness in some spots im going to pick up a bottle of lucas and c if that helps at all today

Did you wash it down good? Unless you have lifted it and are running some pretty large tires, the modulator valve vent could be clogged with mud. It is on the passenger side next to the catalytic converter. I'd probably spend $1 at the car wash before I spent $5 on a bottle of magic goo (I'm not a big fan of additives).

is that the "thing" with the hose atached to it and runing up the top of the tranny

Nope, that's the vent. It just goes from the top of the tranny, makes a big u-turn behind the motor (top tranny bolt), and comes back down on the driver's side to puke fluid on the ground if you overheat the tranny and the fluid boils.

Anything that is dragging on the motor can cause late shifts (stuck/worn driveline or U-joints, roots and mud dragging on the wheels, barbed wire wrapped around the driveshaft, etc.). I was just saying spray wash the bottom of the truck to make sure it isn't so crudded up that your tranny thinks it is constantly going up-hill or pulling a trailer.

The modulator is on the passenger's side and has a vacuum tube (rubber then steel) that runs up on that side of the tranny and then motor, goes across at the top of the firewall, and then connects to a piece of rubber that connects to the vacuum tree on the driver's side of the intake. If the modulator is old/damaged, is could be making the tranny think that you are at full throttle (in which case you would want to stay in a lower gear).

i htink we were refering to the same thing and i checked under and the hose was off its part i put it back on shifts like a champ now

Can't get cheaper than that!

yea thanks for the help
