Al I think your 100% correct, my question is,going back to the very beginning of this thread, why would you be interested in an aftermarket KKM tube?

Because it looks cool.

The only reason I can see to have one is, IF they are ever made, would for looks.

:banghead: Sorry
I thought we were talking about a perf improvment based on some automotive science, my mistake, will stick with my Mac, is pretty IMO

This is true for the later gens, but the first gen intake is restrictive and poorly designed. So it would benefit from just opening things up a bit.

Where do we start........... We will probably look at offering the first generation 4.0L intake tube first. This unit has the most restriction, so it would benefit the most from replacement

first generation, color doesn't matter, if it can improve performance/sound at all, then i am in heard the price was 50-60 shipping included i have nothing to lose (it would be cool if printed on it was "explorer" "4.0" "5.0" "sport" or "ford" in various fonts and colors) just a thought. perfection takes time

It seems like it has been forever.... any status update on this product?

I don't think the powers that be are going to make this happen. I had tried to jump start things (see post #161) back in January '04, but didn't get any response..

Yup, me thinks you are correct. They can put a man on the moon in this amount of time.

If I didn't already have a K&N FIPK I would be down as well.

Now that I have the capibility of accuratly measuring intake air temp via the OBD11 port. i have to wonder if the metal Mac tube could be a problem at less than higeway speeds.
90 degree ambiant temp at 30 mph and I get 130 degrees FIA, at 70 mph it runs about 94, am thinking of a way to maybe insulate the tube

My IAT with a stock intake tube with KKM is only about 2 F above ambient at any speed over 40 MPH.

Interesting, i do not see a cool down until after about 55 mph.
Al right now at my place it is 85, Hume is 28%, just going to let the trac idle for 20 mins and will report back a temp, can you do the same? not scientific but could be interesting, wonder if there are airflow diffs in the two vehicals?

My Results
Ambiant temp in my shop 91
Engine run time approx 20 mins
Coolant temp 193
engine RPM 680
IAT 134
Mac tube you could fry an egg on

Ambient temp 95 F
Coolant temp 191 F
IAT 137 F
Intake tube ( stock ) could easily be handled
Operation time 20 minutes
Electric fan on manual

Would love to see an IAT reading after the TB....

thx Al
interesting comps, I;E basically no diffs, am going to work on getting those temps lower, way lower.
A good time had by all, many thx

That is one reason we have been very hesitant to offer a different intake pipe assembly! First off, the stock pipe will flow double the CFM of what the stock throttle body will. Second, you will not notice any gains with a smooth intake pipe on a non-forced induction engine. Bottom line is, the market demands it and thats why we are working on it.

I have search the intake tube thread and did find a discrepancy. In posts 65 & 107 KKM indicates the stock 1st gen tube has the most restriction and would benefit from the mod, while post 112 indicates NO Improvement
