I went to put on my Truxxx spacers today, but when I went to put the strut back in the bolts for the spacer were facing the wrong way. Anybody know what I have to do to fix this?

You could install it, then rotate the mounting eye of the lower end of the strut 180 degrees. I think you'd have to compress the spring partially to do it.

Or knock out the bushings in the mounting eye and install them so they are on the opposite side.

I am going to go get a spring compressor. Thanks.

i had to spin the lower parts of my replacement front strut assemblies, no spring compressor needed. i layed the assembly on its side, tightened the coils in a vice and used a pipe in the end where the lower strut mount bolt goes.

edit: it took two people though. one to hold the coils in the vice and one to spin the other end

I went and got me a spring compressor. Will try again tomorrow.

Let me know how it goes. I had the same issue, and the spacers have been sitting in the garage for months.

Well I tried today, I could turn the bottom but that did not work because of the pocket for the coils. I am going to try again, but this time I am going to take off the top bolt after I compress the strut and see if that works. I know a couple guys have put these on, I wonder how the did it?

I have no idea. I was never able to get a straight answer. I have a 02 and figured maybe the strut was different on newer models, but I guess not.

What about compressing the spring, removing the top bolt on the strut, and removing the mount plate at the top of the strut. Then pull the rubber pocket out of the top and rotate the metal part 180 degrees. Reinsert the rubber pocket and remount that whole assembly back to the strut.

That's what I am thinking I'll have to do. Just can't see any other way.

I think the main reason I am having trouble with these is because they changed the design. Heres a couple pics.

I am wondering if I can grind off the welds, and then have the welded the way the old one's are.

They did NOT change the design! The old ones are exactly the same. They do it like that because if it was arranged in line, the threads would contact eachother. If you reverse it, the threads will hit the spacer and not lock in all the way.

Thanks Ronin. That is what I am going to do. Warms up here soon I'll get them welded up and take pics.

I just went to the Truxxx web site. Maybe I over looked or something but do they not have a spacer set for the '03 explorers

correct the spacers that you purchased are for the 4th gen explorers. They wont fit without mods. I think there is someone on here with a 3rd gen with a truxxx lift but I dont remember where the link is. Sorry buddy. Good luck

They will work, you have to open up the bolt holes in the rear to make them fit. I should have mine installed here soon, will take pics.

Ronin thanks for the help. I cut the welds off and turned them and welded them back up. Did a mock fitting will only need to trim a little off the bolts.
