Hi everyone I have a 99 explorer 2d sport 4.0. Currently have it on jack stands trying to find a clunking sound the truck makes when stopping or bouncing the rear end. The only time I can hear the clunking sound is when coming to a stop. If I am very gentle with the brakes and come to a very slow stop it will not do it. It is just one subtle clunk sound that happens just after you come to a complete stop. When you are driving it almost feels like something keeps going forward a 1/4 inch on the truck while the rest stops. I can also seem to reproduce the same noise by standing on the rear bumper and bouncing it up and down really hard.
First thought was it was the drive shaft getting stuck and not moving in and out freely. We took it out and checked it and it appears to be fine and isnt the problem. The ball joints and upper adn lower control arms look like they could use replaced soon but also do not seem to be the source of the noise. Does anyone have any idea's what we could look for?
Thanks
