98 ranger
i just got a new center console/armrest for my 98 ranger. i'm struggling to remove the old one. i removed the plastic covers that were over the braces holding the console. i now see 2 bolts ive tried to remove with the tools i have that fit (i forget the name of the bolt they use, but shaped like an asterisk). anyway, i'm putting on a ton of pressure and it's not budging... im worried about stripping these things... is there some position the console has to be in or something tricky i have to do to remove it?

They're Torx bolts. I don't see how the console being up or down could matter...Have you tried putting a little liquid wrench on them?

how much did that consle cost ya?? mines seen better days,,

if it is like the one in my explorer(96) i got it righ out with a rachet and the approprite socket.

I'm looking for the same thing for my 02 ranger. Can't find one on the internet anywhere. Do I need to go to a yopu pull it place??

My problems with Center Console Armrest

Recently bought a 98 Ranger XLT. One of its problems was a broken armrest. I bought an armrest on ebay that was for a 98 Ranger but it only has a driver's side mount bolt. The one on my Ranger has a mount bolt on driver's and co-pilots side. What is going on? I read in this thread that the plastic covers over the TORX bolts slip off. My don't want to easily slip off. Is there a trick to getting them off? Since this armrest seems to be cheaply made is there a better aftermarket or another year that is more durable? Thank you.

Armrest!

Is it a 60/40 split bench seat??

Well let me check out mine, it;s been a while since I replaced it but I will get back to you hopefully by tomm. and see if I can help!
