2001 Ford Explorer Sport
Hello,

I just hit 101,000 miles on my 2001 ford explorer sport.
Considering a few upgrades...

Going with:
Michelin LTX MS2 tires.
NGK TR55IX iridium plugs.
JBA wires.
Accel Ignition Coil.
Mobile 1 high mileage syn oil.

EBC sport rotors / green stuff pads / KN oil&air filter (currently installed)

Should I consider a Cold Air Intake (KN) or Exhaust/muffler options for next upgrade?

Thanks! :)

All above excellent choices. I don't think I cold air intake will do anything for you. As far as the exhaust, if anyone makes headers for he 4.0 they might give you a few more HP along with a cat-back system.

I pretty much did the same things when my SOHC 4x hit about 150k. But why a CAI and/or exhaust? More power? It's a cast iron four liter low rev mill. It's never gonna' blow the doors off anything other than the 4.0 OHV. And it's not going to sound like a 302 ever. If you want to make it breathe easy just clean out the airbox, MAF, IAC, and keep a new filter in her. IMHO new exhaust and CAI are overkill and an unneeded expense. But again, just MO.

Thanks

Thanks for the input!
I think I will pass on the CAI, maybe just do a delta50 or delta 40 muffler, just to give it a little rumble... :)

also,
any reason to upgrade shocks?? Like Bilstein HD?
still factory shocks at 101000 miles.... no leaks or anything...

101k is a baby explorer. I'm at 210k haha

Quick tuneup question. For o2 sensors, do people go with Denso or Bosch?

I use Bosch because that's what AutoZone sells. Never had a problem with them.

100k is time to replace the shocks they might still be "good" but their time is near.

If you're going to spend about $800 on new tires (I have those LTX tires on my Mariner and love them) I would also buy new shocks. And I'd go with Ranchos over the overpriced, overhyped Bilsteins.

And get an alignment as well.

which rancho model? ?

What model should I consider??

^ There are numerous topics about shocks... We'd just be repeating a small amount of the info by telling you something here, although a lot of people like the KYB Gas-A-Just for mostly on-road use.
