Well the speedo and odometer being off because of the new tires is already starting to bug me, mostly because I use the trip meter to gauge how much gas I actually have left. Plus an extra little bit of torque and power can't hurt. Looking around a lot of people have XCAL 2 or 3s on here. Anyone have any thoughts or ideas on them? I'm just starting to look so any info is helpful. Thanks

Thats something I've wanted to do for a long time but figured it should be one of the last things I do to get a better and more accurate tune.

You wont save yourself any money by getting an XCal2... unless you have a never used one that matches ur vehicle. The best bet is to buy an XCal3 and have Torrie from the myst forums send you some tunes. From what I hear he is one of the best. There was another fella who dwells on this forum, can't remember his name but he also seems to be extremely popular. Once you have a tuner and the tunes you can only reprogram the truck 5 times. Then the tuner will lock up and its like $200 to get it unlocked. So make sure you're rig is exactly how you want it before you tune!!

On a side note: my mom has an '05 GT she has been dumping serious dough on. Lowered, Nittos, bigger wheels, air intake and some Bassanni x pipes. She tuned it with an XCal3 and holy $||t. I'd love to have one on my ST, if it makes half the difference it did with the GT it'll open up the little 4.0 plenty! Haha.

Thanks. I definitely was looking for that thread for an hour but didn't find it for some reason.

hey runner, what geariing are you running? i know it costs quite a bit of coin but re-gearing to match your new tire size should help with getting some of that lost power back, not to mention helping with your speedo accuracy and tranny shift points. an ideal gearing for 35's on these tracs would be a 4.88 for daily drivers. im going to 4.56's once i get my rock sliders and aux lighting done.

not to mention helping with your speedo accuracy.
regearing won't alter the speedo readings - that is purely dependent on the tire size as the tone ring sits on the carrier, which is splined directly to the axle shaft. Therefore, changing the differential's gear ratio will not alter the speedometer readings.

I have the Superchips Cortex for mine and I love it. I can feel the difference on every tune and I get 1-2mpg more on the economy tune. It makes the shift points much better too. I have not had any other brands so I can not compare it but it works great for me.

Lono - I've got a good amount of oomph with 4.10s and if I didn't have to drive ~500 miles to school I wouldn't really worry about it. I think I might regear to 4.56 and that would be good enough for me. It doesn't really bother me to have to go a little slower. Probably will end up saving me in the long run. I always drove too fast stock.

Sp0rtTr4c - thanks for chiming in on your tuner. Did you have to enter in your tire size when you set it up?

It did not but it it suposed to be able to do all of that. I have not tried because I only have like 31's but on the box it says it can recalibrate the speedo for bigger tires and what not.

It has quick tunes- stock, performance, heavy tow, and economy.

Plus it has advanced tunes- I have not messed with these because it is kind of confusing but you can tell it when to shift and how firm you want the shift to be and a bunch of other stuff. Besides my tires that was the best thing I have bought for the truck yet.

Good to know. I'll keep it in mind wile looking around because I definitely need to change my shift points and recalibrate the truck for the larger tires. Do you know if it's a flash module?

I am not sure what that is so I could not say. I did alot of research on rangers because there isn't much info out there for our trucks. I just read reviews from all the different brands and the Superchips unit got very good review so I picked it. It was $400 which I think is kind of steep but I do not regret buying it. Hopefully this helps! Let us know which you choose and how you like it.
