I have a '91 sport, but this post has nothing to do with it.

I have a Chrysler Lebaron that is turbo boosted, but the car is JUNK!! A friend of mine has a dog of a car. A 82 honda civic 4 door, no power at all. So I was wondering if I could rig up some type of snorkle to hook up to the carb and in-line on the snorkle fasten the turbo fan. Now since I dont know about the electronic controll and dont care, Im thinking that I could just wire it directly with a switch in the cab. Instead of turbo, would act more like NOS, but not really. What do you think, sound fun?

The project is possible, but nowhere as easy as it seems. First the turbo runs off the exhaust, therefore you will need to determine and fab a way to install the turbo. Next you will need oil feed and return lines to help lube the turbo. Then you will need to design a way to connect the outlet side of the turbo to the carb. Being that few carbs can handle positive pressure (forcing air into the carb) this will be fun. The list goes on and on, so what i'm trying to say is this will be more work than its worth.
 






As Mike said, what your proposing to do is theoretically possible but the parts you would need to change and/or modify would end up costing you a lot of money. I have seen carbureted motors that were turbocharged but the carburetor is not a stock unit. It’s a specially designed carburetor used on forced induction vehicles. Then you would need to build or have built an exhaust manifold that you can bolt the turbocharger on and then bolt to the head. Then, like Mike said, you would need to run oil lines to it. Then there are the issues of A) How much boost can that 20 year old motor take? B) Electronics? How are you going to control fuel/ timing? C) How much money are you willing to stick in an old car like that?

My suggestion, if I may, is buy a newer Honda (if Hondas are what you like). There are many aftermarket parts for them. Everybody and their mothers have turbocharged Hondas.

Take it from a guy who is turbocharging his Explorer, it is ALWAYS much more complicated and much more expensive then anyone ever tells you.

Custom manifold = $400 - $700
Turbocharger = $1800 - $3000
Electronics = $600 - $1500
Miscellaneous custom fabrications = Thousands
Strengthening the bottom end to handle the boost = $1000 – many thousands

Time = Over 13 months under development! And I still haven’t started!

Anyways, just my 2 cents.

Ok, so maybe not a good idea, but Im thinking that everyone is thinking that this would be on al the time. But it would only be acting like a four bbl. Going to pass, flip the switch and have some extra power.

If a carb can't take the forced air, then what about my 1988 VW fox? It has EFI. And I rolled it so I dont really care if I hurt it anymore.
