turn off dome light for suv tent help!

I just bought one of those suv tents that go on the back of the explorer with the hatch open. were leaving today to go camping and just thought about the door adjar light. what do i do about it? i know newer ones are supposed to turn off but im pretty sure my 96 will stay on if i have hatch open. please help asap as i dont want to kill my battery camping. maybe have to pull a fuse, but wich one? thanks in advance

I'm not positive on the 2nd gens, but I know on a first gen its connected to the drivers side latch in the hatch. If I just use my fingers and close the latch it turns off the light. Of course, if you forget to open the latch (like your opening the hatch) and try to close it, it won't close.

I've also heard of people installing a switch on the wire from the hatch switch so they can disconnect it when they are doing exactly what your doing.

I believe on the 2nd gens atleast on my 97, it was not possible unless you wired up a switch..

Rotate your dimmer switch to the lowest setting ? It may have a click to shut off all interior lights.

Not sure if that works on a 96.

Thanks guys. I closed the passenger latch and didn't work so also closed the driver side latch and it worked with both. Thanks again for help
