Hi all. I hope someone can help me out.

I have a 1997 XL 4L sohc. I am getting an awful buzzing sound when I use the left turn indicator. If I am stopped and push the turn signal down It buzzes if I turn the steering wheel to the right a little bit it sometimes stops buzzing and works normaly. About 10% of the times I use the left turn signal it dosn't buzz at all. It has never made the noise for a right turn.

The noise seems to be coming from the left side of the steering column/dash (to my left when in the drivers seat)

I have an after market immobilizer installed (required by insurance co.) but had this problem before it was installed.

Any help would be apprecated.
Craig

It sounds like the multifunction switch. There is a new one on ebay for $46 shipped. Ask the dealership if they can beat that price. You can probably get it from them for around $50. There is a great thread on this site for replacing it.

Yes, that would be the MFS. You might see smoke pouring out of the column soon if you don't replace it. That's what mine did a few weeks after the buzzing started.

Yup i second CAHUNTERMAN. Had the same problem, smoke will come billowing out the top haha, kinda strange.

And to back up sean99, ebay is the way to go. The dealership charges around 70. Most dealerships charge the same amount too so ur def better off w/ ebay

The dealership prices are high, but not set. Tell them you are shopping around, and ask if they can beat the price. They knocked $16 off. I paid $5 more than what I could get it from ebay at the time, but did not have to wait. Ebay is the best when you have the time to wait for your goodies. My heated mirrors should be here today for $66 shipped. :)
