I just noticed my pass. rear rotor has some pretty deep gouges in it, but the drivers side is good. Can I turn the good one and buy just one new rotor(assuming they can't turn it anymore.), or do I have to replace both of them?

It is normal to always replace brake parts in axle sets so that you don't get any imbalance. I would replace both disc's (rotors in USA speak) and pads. Whilst your at the rear handbrake shoes (parking brake shoes) would be a good idea too.

I second that.

Me too. Turning doesn't seem to last long anyway. I'd also recommend a high quality rotor. Some imported rotors are half the price but I wouldn't trust them.

So what rotors would you recommend? Ford? Pepboys? AutoZone?

I just put my rear brakes back together. I ended up buying both new rotors. The left one could have been turned but like mentioned above, I felt better have them a balanced pair. The right one is trash. I have pics will post tonite.
I opted for the Raybestos (Mid Grade) after my military discount they were $54.99/ea. and the pads were $29.99, again Raybestos (mid grade).

When it comes to the rotors, you can replace one and turn one. They are the only part of the braking system that doesn't require replacement in stereo.
If you do replace the rotors avoid el cheapo brand parts. I recomend using NAPA Application Engineered brand.

mrboyle I was waiting for you to chime in, I wasn't sure about one rotor or two, but for the price, 2 was good for me.

Here is a pic of my gouging.

Great pics. Glad it worked out.

Glad to hear everything worked out. Raybestos are good quality parts.

I'm kinda suprised they let you turn that... I know heath gouged his pretty bad, and they wouldn't turn it. FYI, all rotors are prone to warping so I've found. My brembo fronts had to get turned last weekend.

Matt, no they wouldn't turn my rotor. They could turn one but not the gouged one. Min. thickness is .440 I think and I was under that in the gouges.

I have heard that ceramic pads make rotors warp worse than regular(I realize any rotor/pad combo can warp), are you using any kind of high performance pad?

I'm using the brembo pads they supplied. I think they are metallic but I dont remember off-hand. So far I'm not horribly pleased with the Brembo's, but I think its my automotive destiny that I will never have a good solid braking system that doesn't squeal and doesn't warp after only a few months, LOL.
