I was driving home the other day and i downshifted (standard truck) and my engine shut off, i had enough speed to get the gas going again but when i slowed down the engine completely died. And we managed to get it home, but it won't start, it turns over but wont start. Tested with either in, and it wanted to start but couldnt, looks like a fuel problem, but idk where to start.

I'm not really car-savy, But everytime i Idled the engine seemed to shut off completely.

I replaced the Starter Celonide, that's the only thing i have tried so far.

Someone save me!

Bump, So i discovered that it has a Electronic Distributorless Ignition System instead of a TFI. If that helps at all.

...What size motor (2.3L,3.0L,4.0L) might help..

..Before you do anything like disconnect the battery cables, get the codes read even if your light is not on..;)

Bring the code numbers to this thread.

It's a 2.3L

How do i read the codes? I'm a novice when it comes to trucks.. I'm learning as i go right now.

..You need a code reader that you may be able to rent/borrow at autozone/kragen etc...There is a port you plug into under your dash just below the steering column.

These codes could really help get this resolved quickly and if you have someone who knows how to use the code scanner, they may be able to also pull up the "flash frame" which tells some more vital information.

..You need to first check the basics and verify you are getting fuel/spark/gas..If you do not know how to check these feel free to use the search function here while you are waiting for others to chime in..

...Whats got me confused is you were just down shifting? Not fast or slow or taking a curve, just a regular ol' downshift?

..I'm going to be on and off tonight tomorrow so I will keep checking in on you..;)

i was slowing down, i had to downshift or i would have stalled. It might be spark, but I'm not sure.

...Just putting this out their but, I would call your parts stores and see if they cn test your coil packs..

..I'm not saying this is your problem but on the 2.3L it uses one for the starting and I had one that broke a connecter at the coil pack before..:dunno:..If so, it's worth a try to pull both of them and have them tested..

..Reading the codes will take most of the guess work out and save a bunch of money but so will testing for fuel/spark..

..If you turn the key to the on position only, do you hear a whir sound each time you do for about 2-3 seconds?...That's your fuel pump in the gas tank..

My closest parts store cant test the packs, The pump is working and I'll see if i can get ahold of a code reading thing tomorrow or something. But my father thinks it's the coil packs too, i put a volt-a-meter up to them and got nothing from the inside of the packs
