Tv tuner question

Anyone know if tv tuners work well? Rumors have it that they are just novelty items and don't work too good.
I have an alpine tv custom mounted in the console, with an alpine dvd player in the back and an alpine dvd rom navigation system under the passenger seat.
I guess if i purchased one it would be an alpine, but if anyone has any suggestions on another brand they know works, thats cool too.
Any help is appreciated.

you should get one of those huge satelites that RVs have.. lol. j/p.. i think the alpine one should be good..
