I saw two ebay intakes for explorers and they both seem pretty good but I dont know which one to choose. I have a 99 SOHC 4.0 explorer sport and I want to put a CAI system on it but dont want to pay a lot. Well which one of these two kits would be better?

The first kit looks better but is it as good as it looks?

Honestly, the first just looks like it's not very good quality. The second doesn't even come with a filter. All that is is the adapter plate for a cone filter. I'd suggest going with a KKM or K&N drop-in if you're looking to not spend a lot. Hope this helped.

I agree with Josh, except I didn't actually look at the pictures. KKM's are $100 shipped and they are certain to fit your vehicle and work (lots of people here have and enjoy them). Otherwise if you want to spend about $50 on a K&N drop-in, then you could do that and drill out the airbox to open it up to more air. I had a drop in once, but the KKM was a great move up from there for me. (Didn't see any reason to spend $250 on a K&N open filter when the KKM had just as good reviews.)

The 1st one is listed as a "'03-'04", and I am not familar with SOHCs, but if it looks like it will fit on your rig, I say go for it. Comments like "Our Air Intake systems relocate the filter outside of the engine compartment for a cooler intake charge" and "Gain 10-15HP" are VERY scary...............but for $35, who cares!?! If you put it on and it works, congrats! If you don't like it, stick it back on ebay, sell it for $20, and consider it a $15 lesson.

I have the K&N drop in filter with the drilled box, is the KKM worth the extra 100$ to upgrade?

You are not going to be gaining anything except looks by changing to an open element air filter. So get the ebay one if you like the looks.
No, the KKM is not worth the extra IMO.

alright thanks, I MIGHT try that ebay filter deal later on but im not stressing it as much anymore if its hardly going to do anything more than I have already. Thanks!
