I went to a ford dealership today to get some gaskets for my truck and the guy asked me if i had a mitsubishi or a mazda transmission. I have never heard of a mitsubishi transmission on an explorer on the mazda.

I am pretty sure that all manual equipped Explorers got the same transmission during any given year. I know the Ranger came with two different manual transmissions depending on which engine they got. There were three different engine choices on the Ranger with a manual transmission. All of the manual equipped Explorers got the OHV 4.0L engine up until 2001 so there shouldn't be any reason for two transmission.

Yes there are two. What he's saying is correct. Mazda's were by far the most common but mitsu's were put in some trucks too. However, I'm not sure how to tell them apart.

Apparently there is a tag on the side of the transmission that you have to check. My trans is being worked on as we speak so ill have to wait till tomorrow (when I hopefully i get it back) to find out what i got.
