Type of Engine in a 91' XLT?

What type of engine is in a 91 explorer xlt, and what mods can u do to make it run better and make it faster.

V6 4.0 OHV (overhead valve).
Mods: K&N filter or KKM (same but cheaper and comes with the required adapter plate)
Larger MAS (mass air flow sensor)
Larger Throttle Body
Flowmaster/Gibson/Magnaflow cat-back exhaust
Computer chip
Change gear ratio (depending on what is installed now).

These are the beginner ones, the biggest problem with ours is airflow to the engine, these help to increase it. Later on if you want to rebiuld the tranny and engine you can add a supercharger and/or NOS.
