if you have a 4x4 Explosive then yes there are only four 2 for the rear drive shaft and 2 for the front drive shaft. As far as difficulty and how long it may take you all depends on you mechanical apptitude and wheather or not you have the right tools availible to you, such as a socket set, vise, big hammer, large punch or pipe(can fab something), pliers, etc. . I have changed mine before and it toke me around an hour, oh yea and be sure when you buy your new U-Joints that they have grease fittings on them, that way you won't have to replace them again if you keep them greased. GoodLuck!

'92 Explorer 4x4 3" body, 5.5" suspension, 33x12.50 X-Terrains, going to add 4.10s a lockers, maybe a snorkel

I believe that there is a link (I think it is on "spindlecone") on the site which will tell you simply how to replace U-joints. Try the search, it is very informative.

You have 8 U-joints (I have replaced them all).
  • 2 Rear Shaft
  • 3 Front Shaft
  • 3 Front Axle
Check out my sig line below to see pics on how to install them using the "C" clamp tool.

Opps, it was DeRocha, my bad. But it is a good write up.

Hey I tried man but it seems Derocha's feedback may be a little more helpful. that is ofcourse if U want to replace your front axle U-Joints as well. :D
