Ugly two-tone has got to go..

Have an 04 mounty.. Red with the ugly tan lower door panels and bumpers... Not overly concerned with quality but would like to get them painted.

Think I'm just going the macco route since bumpers and panels airnt a huge deal. Also not interested in spending $$$.

Anyone have annnnyyy idea how much they would charge for something like this?

Thought about doing this myself but just don't have the time...

I would step up to a real body shop, maaco is not the best quality, and probably will not look good in a few years. I think you could probably get a decent body shop to do all that for under $500, maybe less if you do a bit of the prep with some sanding and stuff to kill labor time.

Whatever you do don't skimp out on the paint work. My front bumper was once painted and it looks like crap. The road debris has beaten on it and it looks horrible. Lots of pits on it were you can see the original color. Also take a close pool at the side body molding it has those vinyl paint protecter on the bunny part of the molding. It will be hard to replace and if not replaced paint will chip and ward prematurely on that area. Also maaco or another cheap shop will have a hard time color matching the original red or maroon it is the toughest and most expensive color to match. The original paint code won't look right do to fading of paint.

yea, i emailed thje local maaco and they said probably $500... hmm so if i could get a decent body shop to do it for the same (if i try to do some of the prep work) then it seems i should go that route.

yea i did notice that about the side molding.. after hearing these two things i think my best bet would be to remove the pieces myself.. do some prep work and then just have them taken to a decent shop to have them painted..

what is the best way to remove the side molding on the doors? does it just pop if if pried gently?

and what prepping/sanding would you all recommend to save me the most $$. Im down for removing and prepping the pieces on my own.. just not interested in painting. My paint experience stops at RC cars and boats!.. especially matching a 8 year old fade..

I wouldn't remove them just pry with a rubber tool and mask behind it. You will most likely break on of the clips holding it on. Especially in the cold weather. I've never taken mine off so I don't know the exact procedure. But you can do what I do and cost your local boneyard and practice on there's . Just don't get caught.

thats a brilliant idea! might be easier to find one on the side of the road in the city haha jk
