Hi everyone, my first post though I've had a '97 Explorer for a year now.
I'm particularly interested in contacting a Uk owner's forum and getting a recommendation for a specialist Explorer garage/mechanic, hopefully near to High Wycombe/Oxford (i've heard mention of one in Reading but no name). I've a LPG gas conversion. The engine management light is on, I've lumpy starting and stalling till warmed up despite having cleaned out the sliding tube in the choke. Putting it on a diagnostic at my local garage shows engine running lean. Suggestions please on how to proceed and to reset engine management light. Thanks

Welcome. Sorry but can't help with a garage but lean running is quite often lower intake manifold gaskets leaking. Do a search on oom12 kit to see what is involved. Do check for other vacuum leaks as well.

Sound advice from howard.
If you can't get a kit you will be able to get the upper and lower gaskets for about £30 from Ford.
A member on here recently got one from Nationalclearancecentre on ebay and they had a few listed but you will need the Finis code (the uk ford part number). If you search uk section for oom12 kit this may yield the number.
If you don't feel competent to do the job any decent mechanic should be able to do this in a couple of hours. Someone like Howard could do it in half hour!!!

Is the running lean all the time ie on petrol as wel as lpg. Also is it single point or single point gas as some people experience lean codes on badly adjusted/fitted lpg kits

Should also clean the MAF (just spray with electrical contact cleaner. DO NOT use a cotton bud)

Oh and welcome to the mad house :D

Welcome to the Forum.

Folks like Howard and myself aren't too far from you (South Bucks) as we are in North Bucks - so if you want to visit, I'm sure you'd be welcome.

As for your truck, it's really down to you having the confidence to get stuck in yourself as garage labour rates will quickly make owning the truck prohibitive. The good news is, there's a wealth of knowledge and experience on this forum - so use it to your advantage; and most times you'll be able to find the answer without having to pay someone to figure it out (labour).

Oh...we do like pictures too ;o)

Station garage in Great Missendon used to be an "explorer specialist",you could try there...
