'99 UK spec - LPG soon!
I have a "UK spec" 98 Explorer and having owned a few US motors in my time find it pleasingly "American". In terms of layout, controls and construction etc, it really has very little to do with Ford Europe other than having a floor shift and not a column shift. Also as most of you probably know, aside from imports, we only got the 4 litre over here.

What I'd like to know - if anyone has done a comparison - is how the model years compare? Is a UK 98 the same car as a US 98 or are we a little behind or what? If I buy what's described as a 98 Explorer bug deflector when I'm in Canada, will it fit my car and so on.

Any comments wil be appreciated!

i think the sheet metal was all the same,, and the differences were inside,,
ask Blueka, he is going back and forth from Canada, and the UK ,
and he would know,,

A bug shield is the same. Only REAL differences are the steering components, Headlamps, and dash/console/HVAC...

Exterior Sheetmetal was unchanged. It didn't matter if it was RHD or LHD.

i dont like the fender flares personall but they do serve a purpose offroad as blueka will know it keeps the mud from spraying all up the side and across the windows .in fact you can have a full day in the mud and it will only look like youve been through a muddy puddle unlike the range rovers and other makes i see which are caked everywhere and need to be hosed down afterwards

i have to agree with at aswell, me, my dad and rich went offroading with his mitshibishe animal and after 2hrs of offroading only the arches where caked and the sides had dust and mud splashes.

Hello mate- I have looked into this a little b4 I bought the Northface and my model is very like the american Limited.

Thanks very much guys - gives me more confidence, which I need right now having just changed the plugs and lost 2-4 mpg!! What a b.....d job and now they have to come out again! Maybe there are harder jobs - like changing a belt on a running engine? Oh well.....
